Article dated: 13 May 2010   Audience: Public

Message from the President:

On Thusday night Tennis Auckland held their annual prizegiving and I am delighted to announce that out of seven categories for Club awards Cockle Bay collected four of them!
Congratulations to Mike Frankle Coach of the Year
Brian Craig Volunteer of the Year
All Members Auckland Club of the Year!!
Committee Marketing, Promotion and Membership

We are so fortunate to have such a fantastic group of people at Cockle Bay and it is great to see that our small Eastern suburbs club has been recognised for the smooth transition between Macleans and Cockle Bay to merge into the one club. Other clubs have been surprised how easily we have all adapted to the change but at the end of the day our main aim is to play tennis and have fun and we all seem to be able to do that pretty well!
Well done Mike and Brian! You both deserve your awards and we really appreciate how you both work so tirelessly for the Club. Brian has put many hours into funding applications and also played an intrical part in the approach when Macleans was disbanding. He is also a member of the building sub committee entrusted with the responsibility of building and funding the clubroom upper level.
Mike is certainly a deserving recipient of the Club Coach award. His commitment and professionalism is exemplified in the support and encouragement he gave to his son Jono to attain Head Coach qualification and status plus a high number of his staff who have attained Associate Coach qualification and status. Mike's commitment to the betterment of tennis is also shown in his involvement and participation in the CBTC committee, CBTC /Macleans transition team, Interclub selection, Tennis Court building sub-committee, and all the other "things" he does behind the scenes (rubbish man, "fix-it" man, etc!!)
Special thanks must also go to Darryl Betts for helping us win the Marketing, Promotion and Membership Award. The criteria for this award included promotion of club, new member initiatives/categories of members. membership retention and I think with Darryl's website regularly updated this helped us achieve the Award.
But for the best award of all ... CLUB OF THE YEAR .... it is thanks to all our members, juniors, intermediate, seniors for making Cockle Bay the best club of the year. We have always prided ourselves in being a "family orientated" club and now we have our increased membership we are one big happy family all striving for one thing .. the enjoyment of tennis.
Thank you to everyone - it was certainly a thrill to receive the trophy on behalf of the Cockle Bay Tennis Club members and it made the other clubs in Auckland look on the map and wonder where Cockle Bay is!!!

I would also like to congratulate the following teams for winning their Winter Interclub
Winter Mens Doubles - captain Kevin Smith
Winter Womens Doubles Section 1 - captain Barbara Blomfield
Winter Men Singles Section 4 - captain Tom Day
Both Kevin and Barb were at the prizegiving to receive their certificates and a backpack for each of the players and it was very special as the teams were the last interclub teams to play as the Macleans Tennis Club and this was acknowledged by Tennis Auckland.

See you on court!
Sue Clearwater
President
