Tennis Etiquette – A Quick Guide for All Players
To help everyone enjoy their time on court and maintain a respectful playing environment, please keep the following etiquette guidelines in mind:
1. Respect Court Bookings and Starting Times
- Arrive on time for your booking or match.
- Vacate the court promptly when your session ends.
- Always tag in or check in as required by the club.
2. Keep Noise to a Minimum
- Avoid loud conversations or shouting across courts.
- Be mindful of players on adjacent courts, especially during points.
3. Don’t Walk Behind a Court During a Point
- Wait until the point is finished before crossing behind or entering a court.
- Use designated gates or entry points when possible.
4. Ball Courtesy
- Return balls to other courts safely and only between points.
- When collecting balls, do so quickly to keep the pace of play going.
5. Line Calls – Be Fair and Honest
- Make calls clearly and promptly.
- Give your opponent the benefit of the doubt if unsure.
- Respect your partner’s calls in doubles.
6. Keep the Game Moving
- Maintain a reasonable pace between points and games.
- Limit unnecessary interruptions or long breaks.
7. Respect Players and Equipment
- Avoid racquet throwing, abusive language, or unsportsmanlike behaviour.
- Treat club equipment and facilities with care.
8. Dress Code and Footwear
- Wear appropriate non-marking tennis shoes to protect the courts, double check your grip for our courts whether you have the correct tennis shoes.
- Dress suitably for the club environment and conditions.
9. Thank Your Opponent
- Always greet your opponent at the start and offer a handshake (or racquet tap) at the end.
- Win or lose, show good sportsmanship.
10. Keep the Courts Tidy
- Remove all rubbish, used balls, or personal items after playing.
- Return borrowed equipment to its proper place.
